Chillin' in America

It didn't take Boris Sverdlov long to decide the Float Fisherman lifestyle was suited to his nature.

On a June camping trip from Howardsville to Scottsville, Boris decided to try out Mike McClary's chair for two as a good nap spot.

Y2K VIP breaks tradition in N.C.

The City of Danville, Va., and Pittsylvania County, Va., rolled out the red carpet for the Y2K VIP Float.  Amenities were abundant. Hospitality hung on the trees and a good time was had by all.

FFV had a number of VIPs on hand to enjoy the float. Attendees included Del. Jim Dillard, R-Fairfax, Del. Vic Thomas, D-Roanoke, Del. Jeannemarie Devolites, R-Fairfax, Del. Vance Wilkins R-Amherst and 5th district Rep. Virgil Goode. There were also a number of local guests plus the local Chambers of Commerce, Rescue Squads, law enforcement, government officials, the mayor of Danville and the local anglers club.

The camp site was primo.  The hospitality bar and catered

dinner were excellent. The City of Danville provided tables, generators, lighting towers, a flat bed for the band, a crew ready to do anything we asked, and a Dumpster. We even had table cloths.

The boxed, "bag" lunch was river ready. Don Sims and the Dickel crew graciously provided the dining tarp. Heat was provided by mother nature.

We had numerous sponsors and their participation and assistance made the event memorable. Special thanks to Jim Garner, Marge and Pete VanDeman and Cathy and Cris Leonard who were major players in putting this float together. The list of all those who helped is just too long to list. We sent out about 40 thank you letters after the float.

    Patti Jackson was present

to receive the Randy Carter Award. Patti proved to be worthy of the prize based on her impressive Vita alone. After meeting her, FFVers were awed with her intelligence and dynamic personality. She is just one impressive woman.

Tom Coffey of the George Dickel Chapter won the GD Canoe raffle. This is the second time he has won a canoe raffle. It proved difficult for Tom to show his excitement but he managed. The band played on.

VIP Breakfast could be considered a form of fast food as the host was The Virginia International Raceway. Several VIPs and FFVers were treated to a seven/tenths speed run on the NASA sanctioned track. You had see it to believe it!
