My fellow Float Fishermen,
The FFV Memorial Day weekend was held at R5 and the Randy Carter Chapter hosted and cooked. It was a good weekend and this year we had water. Some of us floated the Hazel River and it is a beautiful float that I had never done before. Thanks to the Randy Carter Chapter for their generosity and efforts.
The VIP Float is up next. This is our major event of the year and we hope all members are able to attend. Please, as usual, bring extra boats PFDs, paddles etc., you know what to bring. Hope to see you on the river.
Your Prez

VIP Float
June 24, 2000
This year FFV will host the VIP Float in Danville Virginia. We will float 10 miles of the Dan River from Danville, Va. to Milton, NC. Our campsite is located on the northwest corner of the intersection of the Dan River and State Route 62. Directions and a map are on page 3.
Camping will be available starting late afternoon on Thursday, June 22 through Sunday the 25th. We will be able to drop boats at the put-in on Friday night and
volunteers will secure this area.
Saturday morning starting at 8:30 a.m. we will be bussed from the campsite to the put-in. River lunch will be issued at the put-in as there is not an adequate lunch spot large enough for the numbers we expect.
Our Beach Masters will match VIP guests with a river guide at the putin. The trip is 10 river miles and float time is estimated to be 4.5 hours with moderate paddling. This float is very easy and there may be one class one rapid on this section.
If you have a valid Virginia Fishing License you will be OK as most of this float is in North
Carolina and they will honor your License. The takeout is at the camp-site.

After the float we will be treated to hors d’oeuvres, soft drinks, wine and beer. A catered dinner will follow. The Randy Carter Award will be presented and then the band starts.
Sunday morning, the VIP breakfast will be served to all at a location a short distance from the campsite. You will need to trans-port yourself to the breakfast site. Due to a bridge repair directions to the breakfast site will be provided at the campsite.
First time floaters: This section of river is very easy. You should dress to get wet, a hat, sun-glasses, T-shirt, shorts and an old pair of tennis shoes are appropriate. You may want to bring an old sweater, or rain coat in case we get rained on. If it rains you can get cold even on a warm day.
Do not take anything on the river that will hurt your feelings if you lose it, i.e.: prescription sun glasses, watches, jewelry, cameras etc.
If you are a guest of Float Fishermen we will provide you with a canoe, paddles, life jackets and a river guide for Saturday.
Please bring a small cooler for the beverages that you take down river. A waterproof sunscreen is recommended. Wear your shoes at all times as fishhooks and broken glass are out there. A plastic trash bag is perfect for storing gear.
Directions and details on page 3.
