| Memorial Day 2000
Minutes
|
The Memorial Day meeting was called to some semblance of order under lowering skies. The minutes CW took at the winter meeting and published in the FPP&P were
approved.
The treasurers reported a balance of $9,525.65 in the checking account and $6,212.68 in our CD account. The Leonards also reported $2,300 has been donated to the VIP. The
report was accepted as usual.
C. W. Wiley resigned as the newsletter editor after the spring (VIP) issue citing burn out and Wright Ellis, your humble secretary,
volunteered to assume the duties temporarily.
Don Leeger said membership is approximately 200. Don didn’t bring his records so who can attest to the accuracy of this report?
A motion passed to create the appointed position of Webmaster, thus ensuring budgetary continuity,
executive committee inflation or whatever. Since the newly appointed (but on-going) webmaster was absent, the president tabled the agenda item
concerning the registration of the domain name “floatfishermen.com.”
Bill Tanger brought a casting of the new Randy Carter award and it was examined by the membership. Oh

sure, there were a few dissenters that thought the canoeist depicted looked liked a man and that his hat resembled Tanger’s, but all that was swept away in a vote of acceptance.
Bill continued with a report on the purchase of the Whitt River Bend Park property. $125,000 is needed. The Roanoke chapter has kicked in $1000. More money is sought from foundations, conservation groups and local industries (of which there are few). Bill said the five closest
localities had all either given or pledged their support.
Bill’s last item was the State of Virginia’s Rivers report. He said it was on again after the Commonwealth and the EPA reached a compromise.
A lengthy discussion of VIP nuts-n-bolts followed: Reminder to be on good
life-jacket-wearing- no-drinking-at-the-putin behavior. The press is expected. The float will take 4+ hours and cover 10 miles. Lunch will be given to boaters at the putin since no spot to stop on the way can
accommodate everyone. An additional $200 was voted on to give to the Dickels for the band.
Cris Leonard asked that the state buy out his inventory of hot-selling FFV pins. The club agreed to pur-chase the remaining pins at $1.47 each, providing the title of “pin-head” remains firmly on Cris. The pins will be distributed to guests and support folks at the VIP.
The calendar for 2000 was posted:
|
VIP – June 24-25
Labor Day – Sept. 2-4
Dickel Bash – Oct. 7-8
|
Jim Garner wasn’t here so the winter meeting date decision was ta-bled until Labor Day.
Since all this took an hour and twenty minutes, the membership
eagerly voted to adjourn and returned to their endless pursuit of pleasure.
Submitted with considerable
trepidation,
A. Wrighttus
