Float Fishermen of Virginia                                          Summer/Fall 2001

July Float / Exec Meeting / at Tapscott’s

The fishin’ was good and for those who wanted some exercise, paddling upstream and inventing a comeback to every “Goin’ the wrong way, aren’t you?“ comment provided some mental stimulation. During happy hour and after dinner, there were the usual stories told around the camp fires, especially entertaining were those about dogs (the four legged kind) of past and present.  After dinner music included “My Three Inch Tool“, a big favorite with the crowd.

Next morning, the executive committee  met to discuss some issues such as cutting down costs on postage  and printing of the newsletter (see following article) and standardizing selling prices of  pins- $2,  patches- $4, stickers and decals- $5.

The President's Paddle

Hello fellow paddlers and fishermen,

I can’t believe that Labor Day is almost here again. The summers seem to fly by lately. Speaking of summer, we had an outstanding summer float. The water was low but it still provided us with a nice float and good fishing. Everyone had a good time. Thanks to the Dickels for the supper and the entertainment provided.

The Labor Day float will be held Sept. 1-3, 2001 at David’s Creek, on the James River. The Ethyl River Chapter will host and provide supper Saturday night. The business meeting will be held Sunday morning at 9:00 AM. We were unable to present the Randy Carter Award at the Summer float so we will present it at the Fall meeting. Hope to see all of you there. Directions are on the back page of this newsletter.

I need inputs from all chapters so we can put together an agenda for the Labor Day meeting. Contact me at leborn8346@yahoo.com

See ya at the Labor Day float,

Larry

Webpage or Newsletter- Which Do You Read?

Webmaster Bob Born wants to know how many members have web access and read the newsletter via the web. His thinking is that printing and postage costs could be reduced by not sending a snail mail, paper newsletter to folks who have web access. Bob proposes that we acquire  a software package that would allow the newsletter to be composed as a webpage. He currently  spends a lot of time recomposing the newsletter copy so that it appears on the webpage looking exactly like the paper version.  A new software package would save some time and effort, since the paper version could be printed directly from the webpage version. Please let Bob know what you think about this idea. Contact him at bob.born@mail.com
