July Float at Warren’s Ferry on the James

Highlights the weekend of July 14-15 will include paddling a great stretch of water, chowing down on good food and cheering the current Randy Carter award winner. Receiving the Randy Carter award 2001 is another worthy soul whose efforts for river conservation have made a big difference. (We’ll not list his name here, since it is to be a surprise for the recipient of the award), so come and see who is being honored by joining a long list of past Randy Carter award winners!

The President's Paddle

Hello fellow paddlers and fishermen,

The Memorial Day meeting was held at the Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista. I wish that I could have attended, but I had prior commitments. I haven’t heard any complaints, so I assume everyone had a great time despite the high water level. I imagine some citation fish were caught...What am I saying? If that were so, I know I would have heard about that by now!!

Many thanks to Vice President Byron Jones for stepping up and running the meeting for me. I was told that he did an outstanding job and I should worry that he is out for my job. Well, no such luck, but I can dream, can’t I?

The summer float is coming up July 14-15, 2001. It is going to be on the James at Warren’s Ferry. We will be camping at Tapscott Farm and the Dickels will be hosting and serving dinner on Saturday night. I am looking forward to seeing everybody there. Directions are included in this newsletter.
