Spring 2001 Minutes

Minutes of the Memorial Day Weekend Meeting

            In the absence of President Larry Born, Vice President Byron Jones of the Scotts Creek Chapter called the meeting to order under the covered shelter at Glen Maury Park the morning of May 27, 2001.

            It was moved and seconded that the Winter meeting minutes be approved as submitted in the newsletter.

            In the absence of  Treasurer Susan Richardson, Bob Leonard read her report. The checking account’s balance is $7,609.12 and the CD’s balance is $6,513.90 . The report was accepted as submitted.

            Linda VanLuik requested articles and pictures for the newsletter, noting that no articles about recent floats had yet  been submitted for the summer issue.

            Bill Tanger presented the conservation report as follows:

The State of the Rivers Report was followed by Virginia’s DEQ report containing many errors, so the SORR is currently the most accurate report available to the general public as well as to boating and conservation groups.

FFV is the fourth largest donor to the Whitt Riverbend Park effort. A ceremony was held May 22 in which the head of the DCR handed over a giant “check” for the purchase of the park.
