Labor Day 2001 Minutes

The meeting began at 9:05 in the shelter beside scenic David’s Creek.  The minutes were approved as recorded and posted by Linda VanLuik (since I wasn’t at the Memorial Day meeting because I had a bad leg infec…, oh never mind.).

Linda also begged folks to send articles and pictures to her for the newsletter.  If you are a Float and do anything outdoor related, send it in.

Treasurer Susan Richardson reported a balance of $7,191.05 in our checking account and $6,59401 in our money market account.  Her report was approved by acclamation.

Bill Tanger reported that the Whitt Riverbend Park received a $2500 grant to close on the property and that funds for the limited development of the 27-acre park have been secured.
Bill said 6,500 copies of the “State of the Rivers” report are in circulation.  It is a feather in the cap for Bill and the other folks who labored so hard on this project to see the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the James River Association using the report’s maps on their web sites.
Duke Power is planning a generating plant on the New River near Jackson’s Ferry. The FFV has requested to be placed on the mailing list for all data concerning this project.

In the on-going investigation into the “misplaced” educational funds at the Virginia Wildlife Federation, Bill reported that no progress has been made to substantially secure the whereabouts of approximately $65,000 in donated funds.
