February 9, 2008 - Roanoke River Gorge:

Roanoke River Gorge

Not the first trip of the year by far, but the first photo for the web site. The Roanoke River Gorge is a local favorite for quick ad hoc trips when water levels and weather are right.

For information on this and other nearby trips join the message board!

...and for members waiting for warmer weather, there's always the pool for roll practice.

August 31 - September 3, 2007 - FFV @ Solitude, James River, Labor Day Weekend:

Solitude

The annual end-of-summer gathering was at Solitude on the James River

Despite relatively boney conditions the James below Buchannan was floatable.

Other went downstream to Balcony, or west to the Maury where the previous day's storms had brought levels up a bit.

June 1-3, 2007 - Pigg River & Blackwater River Weekend

Unofficial counts put the number of boats on the Pigg this weekend at 220, and over 100 on the Blackwater. Congratulations to FFV's own Kevin Black and Kurt Sisson for finishng first and third overall, with times of 1:50:13 and 1:54:16 respectively!

May 27, 2007 - FFV @ R5, Rappahannock River, Mott's Landing to Old Mill Park

Following the FFV State Business Meeting at R5, several members floated the Rappahannock from Mott's Landing to Old Mill Park, passing along the way the former site of the recently removed Embry Dam.

The best waters, and the most embarrassing moments, were not captured on film; but there was plenty of scenery on this trip which yielded a few good shots. This was a first descent of sorts for all of the participants (first since the dam was removed).

April 7, 2007 - Roanoke River Cleanup:

The annual spring cleaning is usually followed by a float, but not this year. Cold weather and an inconvenient April snow storm may not have stopped the clean up work; but it did keep most everyone out of the water this year.

This was the view for one member en route to April's Roanoke River Clean Up & Float.

March 31, 2007 - Elk River, West Virginia:

Elk River

Just short of 20 RVCers and friends floated rafts and canoes this weekend. Reportedly the weather was "tolerable," in the 60's, so it is fortunate that there were no more than a couple of swims.
