General Information: about water, boats, fish and the like...

American Whitewater, Virginia Gauges - Rivers & streams in Virginia, level & flow.

Boater Talk - The premier site on the internet to get and exchange whitewater information on the internet.

Licenses - Convenient ways to buy your Virginia fishing license(s), from DGIF.

NOAA/NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service: Area Hydrographs - Rivers listed include the Clinch, Dan, Greenbrier, Jackson, James, Maury, New, Roanoke, others.

River Smallies - The meeting place for river, stream, and creek smallmouth anglers!

VDGIF Shad Cam Project (Fishway at Bosher's Dam, James River) - Active from late March through Early June. The majority of fish species will ascend the fishway during the day while catfish species and sea lamprey will primarily move upstream at night.

AW Safety Code - American Whitewater Safety Code outlining whitewater safety guidelines applicable to all skill levels describing personal preparedness and responsibility for individuals and groups, boats and equipment, guidelines for rescue, universal river signals, and the international scale of river difficulty (adopted 1959, revised 2005).

Places to visit: things to do...

Cumberland State Forest - The usual site of our annual Winter Meeting.

Glen Maury Park, Buena Vista - Frequently used as the site of state events, providing a convenient base camp for trips to the James and Maury Rivers.

VDGIF Virginia Rivers & Streams - Thirty-one maps of major rivers and streams in the Commonwealth. Take your pick.

Virginia New River Paddle Maps - Nine sections of the New, from Mouth of Wilson to the WV border, provided by the National Committee for the New River

Rivers of Virginia - from Virginia Places

US National Whitewater Center (Charlotte NC) - The USNWC is the world’s only multi-channel recirculating whitewater river. The USOC has designated the USNWC an official Olympic Training Site.

Whitt Riverbend Park, Giles County - Frequently used as the site of state events, providing a convenient base camp for trips to the New River in both Virginia and West Virginia.

Advocacy: people on a mission...

American Canoe Association - Dedicated to helping people enjoy the outdoors using kayaks, canoes and rafts since 1880.

American Rivers - A national non-profit conservation organization dedicated to protecting and restoring healthy natural rivers and the variety of life they sustain for people, fish, and wildlife.

American Whitewater - To conserve and restore America's whitewater resources and enhance opportunities to enjoy them safely.

Float Fishermen of Virginia Foundation - FFV Foundation is a non-profit, tax deductible organization dedicated to protect and preserve the natural resources of the Commonwealth of Virginia. See them HERE!

Friends of the Rivers of Virginia, Inc. (FORVA) - Dedicated to the conservation, preservation, and enhancement of Virginia's river resources.

James River Association - The mission of the James River Association is to be guardian of the James River.

Friends of the Rappahannock - To promote the conservation, protection, and enjoyment of the natural, cultural, recreational, scenic and historical values of the Rappahannock River and its tributaries.

Float Fishermen of Virginia (State) - Dedicated to the protection of Virginia's wild and scenic rivers, the umbrella organization of RVC and other chapters.

DE: Delmarva Kayakers - A discussion group for folks interested in canoes, kayaks, sit-on-tops and other human powered boats that we launch from Delmarva onto the Chesapeake Bay, Atlantic Ocean, inland bays, tidal rivers, creeks, and swamps.

GA: Atlanta Whitewater Club - Founded by a dedicated group of Atlanta's kayakers and canoers to provide educational services and events that increase the enjoyment, safety and skills of paddlers at every level of the sport.

LA: Bayou Haystackers Paddling - Organized to promote the sport of paddling in Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi.

NY: Cold Spring Kayak Club - Established in 2000 to bring companions together and to promote the sport of kayaking.

PA: Three Rivers Paddling Club - A Pittsburgh-region club consisting of over 400 (mostly whitewater) paddlers from Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, the Maryland panhandle and beyond.

SC: Palmetto Paddlers - Based in Columbia South Carolina, the club organizes both whitewater and flat water trips and sponsrs training in paddling techniques, river safety and rescue.

HI: Hui Wa'a Kaukahi Kayak Club - Hawaii's oldest and largest recreational kayak club.

Alpiner Kayak Club - A non-profit international organization of passionate kayakers, whitewater freaks and extreme paddlers.

Ireland: Donegal Canoe Club - Kayaking in Donegal and the north west of Ireland.

Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur Sports Canoe Association (KLSCA) - Devoted to promotion and development of kaaking and caoeing for recreation and competition in a safe and responsible manner.

Panama: Balboa Paddle Club - Dedicated to encouraging area youth and adults to paddle native Indian dougout cayucos in Panama Canal waters to foster an appreciation for native treasures unique to the Republic of Panama.
