Bob Born, Charlie May, Clark May, and Bill Chambers departed Newport News at 3:30 on Friday May 5. Our destination was a piece of property located in Nelson that is owned by Dick Matteis. Once there camp was setup and a small campfire was lit as plans for the following day were discussed.
The next morning we got up, had a quick bite to eat and we off. Our plan was to float the Tye River from the Bridge at route 151 down to the bridge at route 56. This would give us about a 3.5 mile float. Short enough so we could "fish" the river.
After the shuttle was ran we got on the river at 9:00am. Bob Born and Bill Chambers who have floated this section of river before, advised the group to paddle the first half mile or so because in trips past we would fish hard at first only to catch some small fish. After the first mile or so the fish were better sized.
As we started down the river we paddled for a little bit but started fishing shortly thereafter. As you can see it didn't take long for us to see it was going to be a good day.

Sunday
Sunday started with a perfect breakfast. Scrambled eggs with fish roe and trout! Man was that good! After we ate we broke camp and proceeded to the river for the day's run. The plan was to float from Massey's Mill down to the bridge at route 151.
